The OCIB combines the biology graduate programs in of Ottawa's two research-intensive universities:
The University of Ottawa and Carleton University. While both universities maintain vibrant and distinctive Biology Departments, the main role of OCIB is to integrate research resources for biology graduate students so both universities are able to offer the best possible array of facilities, expertise, courses, and training for graduate students in the biological sciences.
Our overall objective is to advance biological science and technology to better understand complex biological systems and their relationship with health and the environment.
OCIB facilities are located on the main campuses of University of Ottawa and Carleton University. Biology research, teaching, and administrative resources are housed within University of Ottawa's Department of Biology, within a new, three phase Bioscience Complex, and Carleton University's Department of Biology and associated National Wildlife Research Centre.
